Ajax Reach Agreement To Pay Appie Nouri’s Family Compensation

Ajax Football Club has reached an agreement with Abdelhak ‘Appie’ Nouri’s family.

The 20-year-old collapsed in a preseason friendly in 2017 after having a cardiac arrest.

Nouri was put into an induced coma, suffering serious and permanent brain damage.

Ajax since confirmed that the midfielders medical care on the pitch ‘was not adequate’, accepting liability for what happened as a result.

Today the club has announced that it has reached an agreement with Nouri’s family, paying around €7,850,000, and have reimbursed the cost of caring for Appie since the incident occurred.

“It is good that an agreement has been reached, so that we can close this issue,” said Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar in a statement.

“We all realize that the suffering for Abdelhak and his loved ones is not over. It remains a very sad situation, that’s how we feel here at Ajax, too.”

Appie’s father, Mohammed Nouri, added: “This summer it will be five years since Abdelhak was struck by a terrible fate. The past few years have been dominated by his care.

“In addition to all the difficult moments, this has also resulted in a lot of meaningful things for us. Especially the realization that for many people Abdelhak is a personification of togetherness and brotherhood.” He added, “That is a very comforting thought.”
