Amandla Stenberg has joined the cast of the new Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
The latest project set for Disney+ was developed by Leslye Headland, who will serve as writer and showrunner of the series.
The Acolyte will explore the darker side of Star Wars, with suggestions that the Stenberg will play a Sith in training – also known as an acolyte. The series is reportedly based in the final days of the High Republic.
Variety first reported news of Stenberg’s casting, which Deadline later confirmed.
The 23-year-old actress is best known for her breakout role as Rue in The Hunger Games. She later featured in Everything, Everything, The Hate U Give and The Darkest Minds.
Production on The Acolyte will reportedly begin in 2022.
