Angelina Jolie brands countries banning Eternals “ignorant” and praises Marvel for not cutting gay kiss scene.
Spoilers ahead.
Marvel’s Eternals has been banned in some countries due to a kiss between a gay couple.
In the film, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) begrudgingly joins the other heroes in their mission, and kisses his husband goodbye before he leaves.
Several countries would not show the film unless Marvel agreed to cut the scene from the film.
Marvel refused, and so countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar will not be showing the film.
In the wake of this, Angelina Jolie, who plays Thena in the film, has called the ban “ignorant” but is “proud of Marvel“.
“I’m sad for [those audiences]. And I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut those scenes out. I still don’t understand how we live in a world today where there’s still [people who] would not see the family Phastos has and the beauty of that relationship and that love.”
“How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant,” she said during a press conference.”
Eternals is out in cinemas now.
