Awkwafina is the latest addition to Universal’s upcoming film, Renfield.
The 33-year-old actress and singer will star alongside Nicholas Hoult as Renfield and Nicolas Cage as Dracula. Deadline reports that Awkwafina’s exact role in the film is yet to be announced.
Chris McKay is directing the project, based on a story by Robert Kirkman and written by Ryan Ridley.
Renfield focuses on the perspective of Dracula’s titular servant, and will reportedly be set in the present day. Further plot details are being kept under wraps.
Awkwafina is known for her roles in the likes of Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi. Her performance in the 2019 drama, The Farewell, earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical.
She is next due to appear in Apple’s new sci-fi, Swan Song, and is currently providing voice over work for The Bad Guys and The Little Mermaid.
