Ben Stiller And Cate Blanchett Cast In ‘The Champions’ Adaptation

Ben Stiller and Cate Blanchett are to star in a new film adaptation of The Champions.

Based on an occult British spy series from the 1960s, The Champions focused on a trio of agents endowed by superhuman abilities from a secret civilisation.

According to Variety, Stiller will also direct the new picture and produce through Red Hour Productions. Blanchett is producing through her company, Dirty Films.

“I’m a huge fan of Cate’s for a very long time.” Stiller joked, “I’m hoping this project will help people to finally take her seriously as an actress.”

“Champions‘ is a long-forgotten gem that will excite a new generation in the same strange and magnificent way that the original series spoke to us,” said Blanchett. “I’ve long wanted to work with Ben – the director and the actor. He is one of the most engaged and versatile directors working today. Anyone who can make both Zoolander and Escape at Dannemora is a creative force to be reckoned with.”

Stiller is known for his work both in front of and behind the camera for titles such as Zoolander, Meet the Parents, Madagascar, and Night at the Museum.

Blanchett, who has been a recipient of several Golden Globes and Academy Awards, is best known for her work in films like The Lord of the Rings, The Aviator, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
