Britney Spears’ Conservatorship Has Ended

After 13 years, Britney Spears’ conservatorship was terminated by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Friday 12th November.

The decision was made by Judge Brenda Penny, and is the product of many months of campaigning and court cases by both Spears and her team, and her loyal fanbase which started the #FreeBritney movement.

Spears posted on Instagram thanking God and her fans.

She wrote “Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy 🥺❤️ !!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen 🙏🏼☀️🙌🏼 ???? #FreedBritney”

The video shows Spears’ fans celebrating her freedom outside the courthouse in Los Angeles.

The ruling is life-changing for Spears, who spoke publicly in open court for the first time in June. She delivered a bombshell statement in which she described the complex legal arrangement as ‘abusive’ and condemned her father Jamie Spears and others who had been in charge.

In her statement, she said, “there were six different nurses in my home and they wouldn’t let me get in my car to go anywhere for a month.” You can read more about this here.

When discussing her families response to this, she states that her dad “approved all of it.” At a follow-up hearing which took place in September, Judge Penny removed Spears’ father from the conservatorship. She has now chosen to terminate the conservatorship altogether.

According to Sky News, “Delivered following 30 minutes of testimony, the judge added two caveats – specifying that an accountant serving as a temporary conservator should retain some powers – but ultimately said the ruling on the legal arrangement is “effective today… thereby terminated.”

Sam Asghari, Spears’ fiancé, also posted on Instagram regarding the conservatorship ending.

Spears and Asghari are currently planning their wedding, with Donatella Versace designing her wedding dress.
