Cleveland Guardians Agree To Share Name With Roller Derby Squad

The Cleveland Guardians have settled their lawsuit with a local roller derby squad who share the Guardians moniker.

The MLB team adopted its new nickname following heated criticism of its former name, the “Indians”, which some campaigners labelled insensitive and offensive to Native American history.

TMZ reports that the case has settled out of court, with both agreeing to an “amicable solution”.

“Both organisations will continue to use the Guardians name,” read a statement. Neither side has disclosed what the additional terms of their agreement are.

The lawsuit was filed in late October, with the derby team accusing the Cleveland Guardians of bullying in order to steal their name. They also alleged that the MLB team was plagiarising their logo.
