Colin Firth Among New Castmates Of ‘Empire Of Light’

Colin Firth, Toby Jones, Crystal Clarke and Tanya Moodie have joined the cast of Searchlight’s new picture, Empire of Light.

According to Deadline, the new stars have completed talks to join Olivia Colman and Michael Ward in the upcoming film.

Helmed by 1917 director Sam Mendes, the film will reportedly depict a love story based around a beautiful cinema on the South Coast of England. Mendes is also attached to produce the project, alongside Pippa Harris for Neal Street Productions.

Firth has enjoyed a long and prestigious acting career, starting on the small screen in the UK. Portraying Mr Darcy in 1995’s television adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Firth went on to secure roles in The English Patient and Bridget Jones’s Diary. Some of his most notable work includes starring performances in Mamma Mia!, The Kings Speech, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Jones made his film debut in 1992’s Orlando, going on to feature in the 1998 adaptation of Les Miserables and the 2004 biographical film, Finding Neverland. He has also featured in major titles including the Harry Potter franchise, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Christopher Robin.

Clarke has appeared in a number of television series, including the three-part series, Ordeal by Innocence. She has also featured in Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror and played Georgina Lambe in ITV’s Sanditon.

Moodie’s first television appearance came in 1994’s So Haunt Me, after a successful theatre career. She has since gone on to feature in shows such as The Clinic and Sherlock.

Empire of Light is scheduled for release in late 2022.
