Adrian Peterson was reportedly arrested on Sunday following an allegation of domestic violence.
According to TMZ, the free-agent running back was detained at Los Angeles International Airport after staff reported a disturbance on board an aircraft bound for Houston.
Authorities were called at approximately 8:30am when staff claimed that an argument between a man and a woman escalated into a physical altercation.
Police responded and the plane, which had reportedly just departed, returned to the gate so that Peterson could be removed from the flight. He was subsequently charged with one count of felony domestic violence.
The victim in the case is alleged to be Peterson’s wife, Ashley Brown, who reportedly had some physical signs of assault.
A representative for the couple later released a statement confirming that Peterson was removed from the plane but adding, “This is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly.”
In a phone interview with FOX 24 Sports, Peterson said the incident was completely “blown out of proportion” and claimed that he was arrested over a scratch on his wife’s finger.
“I’m just like wow I cannot believe this is happening right now,” he said. “I’m going to jail and I literally didn’t do anything… it’s blown out of proportion. Me and the wife got into an argument on the plane. That was pretty much the gist of it.”

“I ended up grabbing her hand and taking her ring off her finger. She didn’t press any charges. The state of California pressed charges because there was a scratch on her hand. Literally, that’s why I went to Hail.”
