Mercedes Withdraw Their Appeal Into Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Results

The Mercedes Formula 1 team have withdrawn their appeal into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix results, which saw Max Verstappen take pole.

In a new statement released today, Mercedes-AMG have confirmed that they will be withdrawing their appeal into the results of Sunday’s race after the FIA agreed to conduct their own investigation.

“The Mercedes-AMG Petronas team will actively work with this commission to build a better Formula 1 – for every team and every fan who loves this sport as much as we do. We will hold the FIA accountable for this process and we hereby withdraw our appeal,” the team’s statement reads.

British driver Lewis Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking eight Formula One title on Sunday after race director Michael Masi made the decision to only allow cars between Hamilton and his rival Verstappen to overtake the safety car.

This placed Verstappen right behind Lewis on the final lap of the race and with fresher tires he was easily able to overtake the British driver, ultimately gaining pole position and winning the championship.
