Michael Shannon Joining Jessica Chastain In ‘George & Tammy’

Michael Shannon is joining Jessica Chastain in the new limited series, George & Tammy.

According to Deadline, Shannon will star as George Jones, alongside Chastain as Tammy Wynette. Steve Zahn, who was also recently cast, will play the role of George Richey.

The six-episode series is based on the book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, written by Georgette Jones – the daughter of Jones and Wynette. The story focuses on the tumultuous marriage between the two country icons.

Abe Sylvia created the series, which he co-wrote with Bryan Goluboff. The duo are also attached to executive produce, alongside Chastain, Andrew Lazar, Josh Brolin, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari.

Production on George & Tammy officially began on December 8. The show will premiere exclusively on Spectrum, with a second release date on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network.

Shannon, who made his film debut in Groundhog Day, has enjoyed roles in a long list of major titles. Some of his best-known performances include The Iceman, Nocturnal Animals, The Shape of Water and Knives Out.
