Nick Offerman has snagged the role of Bill in HBO’s television adaptation of The Last of Us.
According to Variety, Offerman assumes the role previously filled by Con O’Neil. The former was forced to leave the project due to scheduling issues.
The new series is based on the critically acclaimed video game by Naughty Dog, set 20 years after the collapse of civilisation due to a deadly fungus. Focusing on veteran survivor Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) and 14-year-old Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), the pair begin a dangerous journey across the quarantine zone.
Offerman will portray Bill – a grizzled survivor who resides in an isolated town with his companion, Frank (played by Murray Bartlett). Additional castmates include Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, and Merle Dandridge.
Offerman is best known for his starring role in NBC’s sitcom Parks and Recreation, and FX crime drama, Fargo. He currently hosts a DIY reality series, Making It, with his former co-star Amy Poehler.
The series, created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, is due to premiere in 2022.
