Ridley Scott Responds To Gucci Family’s Criticism Of Latest Picture

Ridley Scott has responded to criticism of his upcoming film, House of Gucci, from real members of the Gucci family.

In an interview with AP, Patrizia Gucci said that living members of the family were concerned over the intent of the film. “We are truly disappointed,” she said. “I speak on behalf of the family. They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system… Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything, but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed.”

Now, in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today, director Scott bit back against their criticism: “I don’t engage with that.”

“You have to remember that one Gucci was murdered and another went to jail for tax evasion. So you can’t be talking to me about making a profit. As soon as you do that you become part of the public domain.”

House of Gucci will arrive in cinemas on November 24. The film covers three decades of love and betrayal within the Gucci family and their globally recognised fashion brand, with a particular focus on the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci.

Lady Gaga stars as Patrizia Reggiani, joined by Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci, Jeremy Irons as Rodolfo Gucci, Salma Hayek as Giuseppina Auriemma, and Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci.
