Robert Downey Jr. & Matt Damon Join Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’

Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon are the latest stars to be attached to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Oppenheimer.

The pair join Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy, who is touted to play the titular physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film, based on true events, will follow the story of Oppenheimer’s life leading up to his involvement in the Manhattan Project and the subsequent creation of the atom bomb.

Universal Pictures will distribute this latest project from Nolan after the acclaimed director broke away from his long time studio of choice, Warner Bros. His previous works include the Dark Knight Trilogy, Tenet, Inception and Interstellar.

Deadline first reported the casting of Downey and Damon.

Downey is best known for starring as Marvel’s Iron Man. His other works include Zodiac, Due Date, Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes.

Damon rose to prominence after starring in Good Will Hunting – a feature he co-wrote with Ben Affleck. He is well known for playing Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise, and enjoyed starring roles in Saving Private Ryan, The Departed and The Martian.

Oppenheimer will debut on July 21, 2023.
