Tom Burke Replaces Yahya Abdul-Mateen II In ‘Furiosa’

Tom Burke replaces Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the upcoming picture, Furiosa.

The picture, which acts as a spinoff from George Miller’s Mad Max, has been in development since 2020. Based on the titular character depicted by Charlize Theron in 2015, the prequel will feature a younger iteration portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy.

Abdul-Mateen had been set to star alongside Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, however, Deadline reports that his exit comes amid scheduling conflicts, as production on an unspecified passion project accelerates.

Burke now assumes the unannounced role vacated by Abdul-Mateen. The 40-year-old actor previously portrayed Orson Welles in Mank, and Anthos in the BBC’s series, The Musketeers.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures are co-financing the film, which Miller is set to co-write, direct and produce alongside Dough Mitchell.

Furiosa reportedly hopes to begin production in Australia later this year, with hopes to arrive in theatres on May 24, 2024.
