Whoopi Goldberg has returned to The View after her comments suggesting the Holocaust “wasn’t about race” resulted in a two-week suspension.
Earlier this month, Goldberg issued an apology after saying on the programme that the Holocaust “wasn’t about race” and that it was actually about “man’s inhumanity to man”.
The 66-year-old remarks sparked backlash, with numerous fans of the show and fellow celebrities pointing out that the Nazis regraded themselves as an Aryan ‘master race.’
Returning to the show on Valentines Day, Goldberg said she was thankful for everyone who had supported her and that she was committed to continuing to have “tough conversations” because that’s what she was hired to do.
“I missed you all. There’s something kind of marvellous about being on a show like this… Sometimes we don’t do it as elegantly as we could… but it’s five minutes to get in important information about topics,” she said.
“We’re going to keep having tough conversations, in part because that’s what we’ve been hired to do. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always as other people would like to hear.”
“But it’s an honour to sit at this table and be able to have these conversations because they’re important to us as a nation and as a human entity,” she added.
