IN our kitchen, the toaster takes pride of place right next to our kettle so we can whip up a cup of tea and a slice of toast at a moment’s notice.
And to be honest, we thought always that was the set up in most British households… that is, until today.

Earlier this week, author and money-saving expert Lotty sparked fierce debate on Twitter when she asked her 43,000 followers if they always keep their toasters out on display.
She wrote: “Right – do you put your toaster away after you’ve used it or do you leave it out on the counter?”
And in true British fashion, people had a LOT of strong opinions.
One replied: “Put it away! Doesn’t get used enough to justify it being left out and they are ugly.”

Another added: “Lives in the bottom drawer. Comes out to be used. Put back when cooled. Every time. Nothing on my work surfaces thank you very much.”
“Always put it away when I’m done with it,” a third said. “The only appliance that gets to stay out all the time is the coffee maker.”
What’s more, others couldn’t wrap their heads around why you’d ever feel the need to store them out of sight.
A fourth replied: “This is proper baffling. My kitchen is about the size of a cupboard but the toaster stays put. Never even knew anyone put them away…”
Meanwhile, a fifth joked: “What kind of monsters do this? If your toaster’s cooling down, you’re not eating enough toast.”
Pointing out the flaw in their argument, a sixth argued: “If you only have toast that rarely, why even have a toaster? Just toast under the grill.”
Naturally, whether or not to put your toaster away after every use is essentially just a matter of personal preference.
That said, the brand Dualit urged customers not to place their toasters under cupboards or shelves and to keep them in well ventilated areas.
