A WOMAN has sparked the age-old debate over whether men should pay on the first date.
Kiera Breaugh, who is from the US, took to TikTok and offered several explanations as to why she strongly believes men shouldn’t expect a woman to split the bill on a date.

She even went so far as to say that if they do, it’s an “effect of the patriarchy.”
“One of the most insidious and ridiculous effects of the patriarchy is literally women paying 50/50,” Kiera explained.
“Men going around being like: ‘It’s 2021, equal rights, right? You’re going to pay 50/50.'”

“The fact that men expect 50/50 from women when women don’t get 50 per cent of anything.”
She claimed that in comparison to men, women do not receive 50 per cent of a variety of factors – such as money, safety, privilege or space.
Kiera also alleged that asking a woman to split the bill on a date is just a way for men to “pretend women are equal, before they get equal”.
She concluded by urging women to “make his pockets hurts.”
Unsurprisingly, Kiera’s comments caused quite the mixed reaction online.
“I literally refuse to pay on dates. Absolutely not,” wrote one, while a second agreed: “Time is money and my time is valuable!”
However, others had a differing opinion, including one woman who wrote. “Some of us don’t want to risk having him feel entitled to something more because he paid.”
