Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Stripped Of Club Captaincy

After being left out of the Arsenal squad who beat Southampton at the weekend, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been stripped of his club captaincy.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, cited disciplinary reasons as he explained why his club captain had been omitted from the side on Saturday.

Reports suggest that the 32-year-old had return ‘late from a sanctioned holiday’, but neither club nor manager confirmed the specifics.

Arsenal released a statement on December 14, revealing that Aubameyang would no longer be captain.

“Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United,” they wrote.

“We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agree.

“We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.”

It remains to be seen who will take over as club captain, or what the future will hold for Aubameyang at Arsenal in the wake of this.
