‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ Star Sally Ann Howes Dies Aged 91

Sally Ann Howes, who starred as Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, has passed away at the age of 91.

The Times of London published Howes obituary, revealing the late actress had died on Sunday (December 19).

Howes was born to performer Bobby Howes and actress and singer Patricia Malone on July 20, 1930. Her grandfather, J.A.E. Malone was a recognised Broadway director.

Making her own Broadway debut in 1958, Howes played Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. She later starred in the 1962 revival of Brigadoon, for which she received a Tony Award nomination. In 1964 she would also appear opposite Robert Alda in What Makes Sammy Run?.

Howes starred opposite Dick Van Dyke in 1968’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Portraying the iconic character of Truly Scrumptious, Howes reportedly acquired the role after The Sound of Muisc star, Julie Andrews, rejected the part.
