Dave Chappelle Opposes Affordable Housing Plan In Ohio Hometown

The Ohio village of Yellow Springs failed to approve an ordinance to develop affordable housing after Dave Chappelle threatened to pull his businesses from the area.

Plans for Chappelle’s development of a restaurant (Firehouse Eatery) and comedy club (Live from YS) were announced in the Cincinnati Enquirer last year.

According to the Dayton Daily News (via the New York Post), Chappelle turned up to a public meeting to discuss the proposal on Monday. The new development reportedly hoped to provide affordable housing to workers who currently have to commute to their jobs at an expense.

Voicing strong opposition to the development plans in his hometown, Chappelle branded the Village Council “clowns”.

“I don’t know why the Village Council would be afraid of litigation from a $24 million-a-year company while it kicks out a $65 million-a-year company.” He continued, “I cannot believe you would make me audition for you. You look like clowns.”

“I am not bluffing,” he said. “I will take it all off the table.”

After a voting deadlock of 2-2 due to one recusal, the proposed housing development cannot proceed.
