Emma Raducanu Wins BBC’s ‘Sports Personality Of The Year’ Award

Teen tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has been named BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year for 2021.

The 19-year-old ended Britain’s 44-year wait for a Grand Slam singles champion earlier this year when she stormed to victory in the US Open – without dropping a single set.

Her performances have resulted in a current career-high ranked of world no.19.

Raducanu beat off stiff competition from Olympians Tom Daley and Adam Peaty who enjoyed a flurry of success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I’m really happy with this, I’ve watched Sports Personality of the Year growing up and it’s an honour to be among those past winners,” she told BBC Sport

“I’m happy for British tennis as well, and that we’ve managed to get this award…again!”

“Thanks to all the fans and voters, this year has been insane. The energy this year playing at Wimbledon in front of my home crowd, that was something I’ve never felt before.”
