If you were among those who were eagerly waiting for a spinoff show on the life story of Game of Thrones character Jon Snow, we have a sad update for you. It’s no longer happening!
Kit Harington who played the fan favourite character Jon Snow in Game of Thrones recently revealed that makers have shelved the idea of a Jon Snow spinoff show. He said that the spinoff centered around Jon Snow is “off the table” since they “couldn’t find the right story to tell”.
Kit’s Jon Snow role is a fan favourite
It was reported in June 2022 that Kit will return to his iconic Game of Thrones role. The same earned him two Emmy nominations – one for supporting actor and another for lead actor in a drama series.
Later, George RR Martin confirmed in a blog post that it was Kit’s idea. He said at the time, “It was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.”
Kit kept quiet about the idea since he wanted to be sure before the world got a whiff of it. Kit Harington said, “I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed. I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.”
“And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf,” he said.
But they didn’t go ahead with it since they “couldn’t find the right story to tell”.
The network has not commented on this development so far.
What happened in Game of Thrones
In Game of Thrones, Kit’s character Jon Snow was exiled from Westeros. He is shown riding into the Haunted Forest with his direwolf Ghost and the Wildlings to begin a new life.
Meanwhile, Game of Thrones universe will continue on HBO and its streaming service Max as House of the Dragon returns for Season 2 this summer and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight goes into production.
Kit Harington’s latest film Blood for Dust will release in theatres on April 19.
