Opinion: Top Picks From New Music Friday Featuring New SZA Track

While we relived our year in music with Spotify Wrapped 2021 on Wednesday, we look to the future on Friday with new music.

And December 3 marks the return of SZA, who dropped new singleI Hate U; a track that has already taken TikTok by storm, ultimately prompting its official release.

Earlier this year, SZA dropped three new tracks on Soundcloud – includingI Hate U; so her other two surprise drops, Joniand Nightbird, may not be too far behind.

It’s been four years since album Ctrl, and the trio of tracks could indicate the direction SZA intends to go in with her follow-up record.

Elsewhere in the new releases, it appears to be the week for feature tracks.

Juice WRLD teamed up with Justin Bieber for new song Wandered to LA, while Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi released Just Look Up – a feature song from the upcoming Netflix movie Don’t Look Up that the pair make an appearance in.

Khalid returns with a new album Scenic Drive that has a number of big names across his tracks, including Majid Jordan and Alicia Keys.

Swedish pop star, LÉON, is also a feature in this week’s releases with new track Fade Into A Dream.

And since we’re in December, Ed Sheeran and Elton John are getting in the festive spirit with Merry Christmas; while Sam Fenderhas taken The Dying Light from his second studio album Seventeen Going Under to create a ‘winter edit’ of the track.

Artist on the Rise – Clinton Kane

On the rise, or already there?

One thing for certain is that the whirlwind year for Clinton Kane has helped him amass over 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

The Aussie singer has been releasing music on streaming platforms since 2019 but seems to have taken things to new heights in the last 12 months.

Unsurprisingly, like with many artists of late, TikTok has played a significant role in his rise.

His single I Guess I’m In Lovewas teased on the platform for months and quickly became his most popular release, currently sitting at over 100 million streams on Spotify alone.

This week he dropped new track GO TO HELL; taking him down uncharted territory with pop-rock influences.

Kane has made a name for himself making music that makes people feel things, and his recent singles are a clear indication of that.

Even with millions of monthly listeners, this is still just the start of what could be global stardom for the 22-year-old.
