Saints Running Back Alvin Kamara Arrested For Battery

Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested on Saturday following an alleged altercation at a nightclub.

According to AP, police responded to a call at approximately 5:50pm at a local hospital, where a person reported that they had been battered at a nightclub.

Kamara was taken into custody after detectives determined him to be the perpetrator of the attack. His arrest followed his participation in the Pro Bowl on Sunday, making four catches for 23 yards.

ESPN reports that surveillance footage obtained by police confirms the victim’s story. He claims that he was accosted by Kamara and a large group of his associates while waiting for an elevator at the Cromwell Casino in Drai’s After Dark Club. The group repeatedly punched and stomped on the victim before they were escorted from the property.

Contradicting the victim’s account and the surveillance footage, Kamara told police that the alleged victim called one of his friends ugly and told them he would “whup your ass”. He then claims to have witnessed the fight break out but only threw a punch after the man tried to flee, believing he had wronged someone in the group.

The unnamed victim was reportedly knocked unconscious during the attack, sustaining a list of injuries including an orbital fracture to the right eye.

The 26-year-old running back remained in custody yesterday evening, with bail set at $5,000. He was due to attend court on Monday, with a further court appearance scheduled for March 8.

If convicted, Kamara could face up to five years in prison.
