Serena Williams To Miss 2022 Australian Open

Serena Williams has announced that she will not be participating in the 2022 Australian Open

The Australian Open website stated that her decision to not compete is a result of following advice from her medical team.

A torn hamstring, suffered in the opening round of Wimbledon earlier this year, has prevented the seven-time women’s singles AO champion from participating on the WTA Tour since June.

“While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete,” the 40-year-old said.

“Melbourne is one of my favourite cities to visit and I look forward to playing at the AO every year.”

“I will miss seeing the fans, but am excited to return and compete at my highest level.”

The Australian Open will begin on January 17 2022.
