Tottenham Hotspur’s league fixture against Brighton this weekend is in doubt following a Covid-19 outbreak across the club.
A mass outbreak of the virus has seen them return thirteen positive lateral tests – eight players, and five members of staff.
The results of the PCR tests will determine whether or not the club put in an official request for postponement, but it is said to be under review according to BBC Sport.
Spurs are due to play Rennes in the Europa League Conference League on Thursday, with the UEFA insisting that the match will go ahead as scheduled.
“Today another player and another member of staff positive,” said Spurs manager Antonio Conte.
“I want to speak about football. This is not a good thing for you, the fans and staff.”
He continued: “Everyone is a bit scared, we all have families. I ask why? Why? Yesterday we trained and two positives, today we trained and after another two positives.”
“Who next? It’s not right, we’re going home to our families.”
The positive tests have engulfed the first team, leaving Conte with a depleted set-up both players and staff wise.
“We had 11 players available for the match and by the end of the training session today one of the players who would start tomorrow is now positive.
“It’s scary. We’re all having contact,” per Alasdair Gold at Football London.
As things stand, Spurs will still be expected to field a team for their Europa League fixture on Thursday – with UEFA rules stating that they can do so as long as they have 13 players available, including a goalkeeper.
