Wayne Rooney Names The Two Clubs He Would ‘Love’ To Manage

Wayne Rooney has revealed the two clubs he would ‘love’ to manage some day.

The ex-Manchester United forward is currently facing an uphill battle to help Derby County avoid relegation this season.

And his commitment to the job at Derby has already shown, turning down the chance to interview for the managerial vacancy at Everton earlier this year.

“I didn’t go to the [Everton] interview, which I was asked to go to,” Rooney told The Mirror. “I’ve always been one who likes a challenge and is willing to put the work in and fight.”

“I’ve stood in front of my players and told them ‘I’m with you, trust me, I’m fighting with you’,” he said. “What type of person would I be if – at the first opportunity – I left them? True to my word, I am fighting for the club. I am trying to get us out.”

But despite his focus being on keeping Derby up, that won’t stop him dreaming of landing the managerial role at one of his former clubs.

When asked “would you like to be that man [Manchester United manager] one day?”, he responds: “Of course I would.”

“At the minute my focus is obviously on Derby County and us staying up, but Manchester United, Everton, the two clubs who are very close to me. And hopefully one day in the future if I can manage one of them two clubs it would be a great achievement for me.”

Rooney’s upcoming documentary, to air on Amazon Prime, will be released February 11.
