Khaleda Zia receives ‘Mother of Democracy’ award

The party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed over the ‘Mother of Democracy’ award to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Mirza Fakhrul met Khaleda Zia at her residence Firoza in Gulshan on Tuesday night (February 8). He later handed over the award to the BNP chairperson.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter. He said the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir handed over the ‘Mother of Democracy’ award to Khaleda Zia, the first woman freedom fighter, mother of democracy and leader of the country.

Incidentally, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia returned to her Gulshan home on February 1 after being hospitalized for 61 days .An organization called Canadian Human Rights International Organization (CHRIO) honored BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as ‘Mother of Democracy’. The BNP made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, three and a half years after receiving the award.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan at noon, the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, The organization has given the Mother of Democracy Award to the country’s leader for these reasons.

The Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh has also recognized the prestigious CHRIO as an acceptable organization, claims Mirza Fakhrul. At this time, he presented the crest and certificate of honor to the journalists.

BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia was convicted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission on February 8, 2016. He was later kept in Dhaka Central Jail. After two years of imprisonment, when the Corona epidemic broke out (March 25, 2020), he was released on condition of special consideration by the government at the request of his family.
