FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Elementary-aged students participated on Thursday at the Flint Regional Science and Engineering Fair at the Sloan Museum of Discovery.

Organizers say this year’s new stand-alone, one-day format brings an exciting change to the event.

The student’s projects were judged throughout the day. Students 3rd-5th grade participated in the event on Thursday.

Awards were handed out to the top projects during a ceremony at Longway Planetarium before students returned to their schools.

“First, we want them to know that they can do science and engineering,” says the fair director, Jordan Krell. “The second thing that we are looking for is for them to talk to an adult. A professional in a STEM field and see that I look like them.”

The Flint Regional Science & Engineering Fair is one of the nation’s oldest science fairs, now in its 68th year.
