Copenhagen plays host in baseball, softball

COPENHAGEN, New York (WWNY) – Copenhagen played host to both baseball and softball on Friday.

Frontier League baseball on the turf at Copenhagen, the Golden Knights hosting Sackets Harbor.

It was a pitcher’s duel in this one. At the top of the 1st, the Patriots starter Damon Cerow gets the strikeout.

The Patriots with the bases loaded looked to get on the board first, but Copenhagen starter Clay Vogt gets the strikeout to end the threat.

At the bottom of the 4th, Copenhagen gets on the board as Brett Vogt hits a shot to the gap that goes to the wall, allowing Samuel Carroll to score from 2nd: 1-0 Golden Knights.

That’s more than enough for Clay Vogt who went 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and fanning 9.

Copenhagen blanks Sackets Harbor 3-0.

A Frontier League Softball battle played out on the turf at Copenhagen as the Golden Knights hosted Beaver River.

At the top of the 1st, Eliza Metzler hits a slow roller that gets through, allowing Kendra Lehman to score from 2nd: 1-0 Beaver River.

A the bottom of the 1st, Copenhagen ties it up as Caitlynn Case strikes out, but the ball is dropped. Case is thrown out at 1st base but Samantha Stokely scores from 3rd, tying the game at 1.

At the top of the 2nd, the score was 2-1 Beaver River when Aubrie Monnat reaches on a fielder’s choice: Charleyann Lehman scores to make it 3-1 Beavers.

Then it’s Emily Knight with the shot to center that goes for extra bases. Both Ella St. Croix and Monnat score, upping the Beavers lead to 5-1.

A bit later, Metzler singles back up the middle and Lehman checks in from 3rd: 6-1 Beaver River.

Charleyann Lehman follows with a base hit to center: 2 more runs score.

Beaver River beats Copenhagen 19-6.
