WIND ADVISORY FOR ALL OF WEST MICHIGAN FOR FRIDAY; GUSTS TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE

Good evening, West Michigan!! Rain has underperformed forecast totals because the track of the rainmaking disturbance has been a little further east than anticipated. Even so, we’ll continue to have steady rain over much of the area through the evening and overnight. Thunder is no longer of concern as we remain on the cool side of the system.

As the low pressure departs the state Friday, strong wind will build. We’re already seeing gusts in the 20 mph range from the northeast. They’ll top out around 25-30 mph later today but coming from a more north-northwesterly direction. Showers fill back in tonight on the western side of the storm, setting up a wet Thursday night and Friday morning. A significant tapering off of showers transpires from mid to late morning Friday. The overarching story Friday is the wind: northwesterly gusts of 40-45 mph are legit. A few 50 mph gusts cannot be ignored. With a wet ground, some branches, limbs may come down. That’s the reason behind a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY that has been issued for all of West Michigan through Friday.

It’s a stellar weekend in just about every regard. Sunshine dominates Saturday as we rise to near 60 degrees. It will be breezy, nothing like Friday. We’re still watching for a handful of showers and storms Saturday night and early Sunday, especially near and north of I-96. Otherwise, Sunday features a another huge warm-up with partly sunny skies. Middle 70s should be repeatable Sunday and Monday. Thunderstorms and a lot of wind pivot into the Mitten Tuesday in the vicinity of a warm front. We’ll have to watch for some stronger storms. We have 3rd and final round coverage of the Masters on News Channel 3 Saturday and Sunday. Hooray!
