Rochester nonprofit takes advantage of Total Sports Experience during drastic weather changes

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WROC) — River Flow Soccer Club is a100% volunteer based nonprofit organization. Vice President Jim Hermann says places like Total Sports Experience are vital for kids to remain active regardless of rain, snow, or extreme cold.

“Being able to get indoor and outdoor especially in winter when they come here and get this artificial turf and they get a feel of grass, whereas in Western New York is inclined to be, a lot of snow on the ground. It reminds them snow is temporary but you’re going to be going outside soon,” said Herrmann.

He says that little reminder is important because as the weather warms up and they head outside, more kids can stretch out.

“On Fridays we’re here at TSE and it’s a tight space. We have our 9-year-olds, 10-year-olds, and 11-year-olds practicing on this field at the same time just cause space is tight so when we get outside in the fresh air we can spread out, everyone won’t be bumping into each other and with Rochester weather we’re hoping it won’t be snowing,” he said.

He says the indoor vs outdoor balance is vital for their mental health as well.

“Really it’s a great way to introduce kids to get a sense of their outdoors and that it’s not just everything within six feet around them,” he said.

Herrmann says if you would like to sponsor one of their players, they have a fundraiser for you to check out on their website RiverFlowSoccer.org.
