Ishigaki Island

The best way to enjoy your island getaway in Ishigaki is to go on tours that will include a visit to the other islands within the Yaeyama chain, including Iriomote, where you will find the Iriomote lynx, an endangered leopard cat. Your tour will also take you to Taketomi Island, a circular shaped island home to star-sand beaches. Since only a few visitors would venture into Yaeyama, you will be able to enjoy a truly authentic experience.
Check out the Ishigaki’s Rivers as well. Although not quite as wild as those that you will find in Iriomote, it has enchanting jungle-like scenery that you can best explore on a kayak. Ishigaki is also home to the tallest mountain in Okinawa, offering various hiking trails to take you to the island’s hilly interiors.
When not exploring the outdoors, you could find yourself frolicking at the beach. Ishigaki is home to sandy and rocky beaches covered with tiny pieces of bleached corals. Here, you can go swimming, diving, and snorkelling, or simply lying under the sun to work on your tan. Although the beaches are open all year round, the best time to visit is between April and November, when the temperature reaches more than 25 degrees.
