UEFA Champions League RO16 Fixtures Drawn Twice Following Technical Error

With the conclusion of the group stages last week, the UEFA Champions League is looking ahead to the new year.

What started out a straight forward draw for the Round of 16 turned into anything but this morning.

A technical error saw Manchester United wrongly drawn against Villarreal to begin with, before a failure to put their ball in the pot for the Atlético Madrid tie.

United eventually went on to draw PSG, while Atlético were set to face Bayern Munich.

With eagled-eyed viewers picking up on the error, the integrity of the draw was thrown into doubt.

The UEFA, following pressure from clubs, were left with no choice but to re-do the draw in the interest of fairness.

For the second time lucky, the UCL RO16 Draw:

Paris Saint-Germain v Real Madrid
Atlético Madrid v Manchester United
Sporting v Man City
Inter Milan v Liverpool
Benfica v Ajax
Villarreal v Juventus
Salzburg v Bayern Munich
Chelsea v Lille

The first leg of the ties are scheduled for mid-February, while the return legs will be played in early March to determine the last eight.

This year, away goals will carry no weight on the outcome of the fixtures.
