Explosive Lawsuit Exposes Blatant NFL Racism In Hiring

I’m not emotionally invested in the NFL; I don’t even like football. But man, this lawsuit is just disgusting and I hope Flores wins. Via CBS Boston:

BOSTON (CBS) — Bill Belichick texted the wrong Brian to congratulate him for getting the Giants’ head coaching a job, according to a lawsuit filed by former Dolphins head coach and former Patriots assistant coach Brian Flores.

The lawsuit showed text messages of Belichick sending congratulations to Flores for landing the Giants job on Jan. 24. That text was sent two days prior to Flores actually interviewing for the job.

After Flores initially appeared confused by the text message, he asked Belichick, “Coach, are you talking to Brian Flores or Brian Daboll. Just making sure.”

Belichick replied: “Sorry – I f—ed this up. I double checked & I misread the text. I think they are naming Daboll. I’m sorry about that. BB”

Yep. Just going through the motions so they can hire the white guy they wanted all along.

Roughly 70% of @NFL players are Black. Meanwhile, out of 32 teams:

-Not a single team has a Black owner

-Only one team (3%) has a Black head coach

-Three teams (9%) have a Black QB coach

-Four teams (12%) have a Black offensive coordinator

-Six teams (19%) have a Black GM

The NFL does not interview Black candidates for these roles in good faith, thus creating the stigma that they are mere “Rooney Rule candidates” regardless of their qualifications, the class action complaint alleges.

Unfortunately, Coach Flores knows this all too well.

Last week, Mr. Flores was reportedly a front-runner for the @Giants head coach position. He thought he had a real shot at it—until he received these texts from @Patriots head coach Bill Belichick just days before his interview, the lawsuit states. pic.twitter.com/2RWTpVeghi

In a humiliating act of alleged racism, Mr. Flores was forced to sit for an extensive interview, knowing that the Giants had already chosen Brian Daboll, a white man, for the job.

Mr. Flores now brings this class action to effectuate real change for the future.
