Demonstration of mass solidarity in Barisal in protest of rising prices of daily commodities

Gana Sanghati Andolan has staged a protest rally in Barisal against the rise in prices of daily necessities including edible oil. The program was organized at the Ashwini Kumar Town Hall premises in the city on Saturday morning.

Speakers at the rally said the government has made the lives of the people of the country miserable. By increasing the prices of daily commodities including edible oil from time to time, the profit of the traders is giving way to lottery. The people of the country are now struggling to survive after a minimum of food. Some people are prospering financially. There is no politics for the people who are crushed in the threshing floor of this looting economy. But the government is trying to put to sleep with the empty words of increasing per capita income.

The speakers also said that the price of edible oil has increased by 69 percent in the last two years. This rise in commodity prices has breathed new life into people’s lives. The government is repeatedly cheating the people by raising the GDP. People’s pockets are always being cut for the sake of losses. They called upon the government to avoid this irrational and anti-people path thinking of the common people of the country.

Speakers said that the price of everything is unbridled due to corruption and wrong policies of the government. Rising oil and gas prices have pushed up transportation costs across the country. If this phase increases, the suffering will increase further. Prices of agricultural products will rise, which will affect public life. The famine that the country is heading towards can be clearly seen by looking at the long line behind the TCB truck. At the time, they called for an immediate end to the rise in gas, electricity and fertilizer prices.

Dewan Abdur Rashid, convener of Barisal district branch of Gana Sanghati Andolan, presided over the rally conducted by Sakibul Islam, a member of Gana Sanghati Andolan.

Barisal District Member Secretary of Gana Sanghati Andolan Arifur Rahman, Member Secretary of Barisal Sadar Upazila Yasmin Sultana, District Committee Member Rubina Yasmin, Organizer of Bangladesh Students Federation Barisal University Zaman Kabir, Vice President of Student Federation Barisal District Branch Hasib Ahmed and others addressed the rally.
